An opportunity is available for experienced Special Education Teachers to support a non-verbal, self-contained Autism classroom serving early childhood and elementary students. This position is located in Edison, NJ, at an early childhood school and operates on a school-year contract basis. The role involves working with small groups of 68 students, including two Pre-K to 1st grade teachers and one K to 1st grade special education teacher. Each classroom includes 6 students and a team of two paraprofessionals, supported by a multidisciplinary team consisting of BCBAs, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and others. Typical working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Key Responsibilities: - Provide specialized instruction and support for a high-needs student population in a non-verbal Autism classroom. - Implement strategies focused on functional behavior and communication to foster student growth and independence. - Collaborate with paraprofessionals and allied health professionals to create a cohesive, supportive learning environment. - Monitor student progress and adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs. - Maintain clear and accurate documentation of interventions and student outcomes. Qualifications: - Certification: TOSD with PREK-3 or K6, or TOH certification. - Proven experience working with students with Autism, particularly those who are nonverbal. - Ability to promote functional behavior and communication skills in a classroom setting. - Strong collaboration and communication skills within multidisciplinary teams. - Commitment to supporting student independence and educational growth.
