Job Description:

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Front Desk/Scheduler is a customer service-oriented individual who is responsible for the proper scheduling of procedures, verification of patient insurance coverage, patient registration processes (i.e. enter insurance and demographic information into the EHR system, produce registration forms), medical record processes, coordination of communication between patients, visitors, providers, and SurgiCenter staff. This is a very important position that requires excellent customer service skills, critical thinking and processing skills with the ability to perform multiple simultaneous tasks with accuracy, efficiency, a professional appearance, and a positive attitude. The Front Desk/Scheduler welcomes patients, families, physician's and visitors to the Center either in person or over the phone and is the point person of receiving and directing incoming calls, distribution of messages, and assisting the Biller/Coder as necessary. Assembles all patient charts, notifies patient of copay responsibility, and offers directions to the center. The Front Desk/Scheduler must work directly with the clinical staff members to properly understand lengths of procedures and room availability. Other duties could include completion of medical records along with other assigned duties.QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology and coding courses. Experience: Two years' experience in the healthcare field, preferably in ambulatory surgery center setting. Medical office or hospital based clerical experience is preferred. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences. Excellent telephone, clerical and organizational skills with attention to detail required. Competent in the use of basic office equipment including computers, printers, scanners, fax and telephones. Commitment to excellence with high integrity and motivation for success. Participates in opportunities of continuing education. Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication. Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, coworkers, and other health team members. Experience and strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other common office software, word processing andspreadsheet software, medical terminology, electronic health record (EHR) and scheduling systems. Bilingual is favorable.Certification/Licensure: BLS (American Heart Association) Certification required.
