Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic, Lead Reports to: Maintenance Mgr. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Shift: Days Department: Maintenance Prepared by: Human Resources Approved By: Plant Manager Date: June 13, 2025 Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Technical college or certifications preferred Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the food, beverage, or other high speed automated manufacturing environment. Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience required. Ability to read electrical schematics and technical manuals. Ability to troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC systems. Ability to program preferred. Computer literacy required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word. Knowledge of preventative maintenance software required. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Knowledgeable on OSHA laws and can implement all OSHA required training for the department. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be 18 years or older. Pass a drug test and physical exam. Ability and willingness to work 12 hour shifts and the flexibility to work a flexible full time schedule that may include weekends and holidays. Essential Job Duties: Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules. Maintain a positive working environment that’s free of harassment or discriminatory activities. Work with line mechanics to assure the completion of preventative maintenance plans on equipment and machinery to assure efficient and safe operating conditions. Works directly with the production leads when necessary to review and establish programs to control and improve the production processes. Investigates and diagnoses to resolve production problems in a timely manner utilizing line operators and mechanics. Acts as the “first responder” when a line stops producing and assures that the appropriate mechanical help is on site to correct any problems quickly. Accurate and comprehensive completion of daily paperwork documentation. Provides training and cross training to assure that the mechanic staff meets required competency ratings in order to meet production schedules, product specifications, quality requirements and safety standards. Helps the maintenance manager evaluate training opportunities and training progress in order to ensure a qualified workforce. Implement and facilitate the facilities food safety and food quality programs to assure compliance and achieve desired results. Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel. Coach employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies. Prioritizes work to ensure timely maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment, tools and utility systems to minimize manufacturing downtime. Drives the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the maintenance manager. Reviews maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities. Work with the maintenance manager to develop, update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures. Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational and safety performance standards. Directs the orientation and training of maintenance, setup and changeovers to improve work performance and adhere to company policies and procedures. Ensures production equipment is ready for use by completing preventative maintenance requirements, and recommending third-party service repairs when necessary. Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings. Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed repairs. Perform any and all other duties as required by the maintenance manager and needs of the business. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions; and a noise level requiring use of hearing protection. GMP & PPE Required While on the production floor in the plant you will be required to follow and help to enforce all GMP regulations in the plant. Anyone entering the production floor must follow the GMP rules in their employee handbook, which includes the required hairnets, beard nets, and earplugs. It is also required that all personnel wear safety glasses as the tasks requires. Follow standard operating procedures including quality checks and procedures for all operations. Meets food safety and quality objectives and the requirements of the SQF System. In the absence of this employee, the direct manager or appointee will cover responsibilities.
